Saturday or Sunday worship?
It has been playing on my mind on whether if you wanted to put down one day to Worship the Lord should it be the Sabbath like originally intended in the old testament and the 10 commandments, or Sunday, like the world believes.
I have never really been 100% certain, because there is so much controversy about this subject. So as the answer to every question about scripture is in scripture, I went straight to the source.
Many people say that the law is past, because Jesus fulfilled the Law, so therefore we don’t need to put aside the Sabbath anymore.
God Never changes, so if he said so many, many times throughout the Bible to keep the Sabbath, why would he change that in the new testament.
It didn’t make sense to me.
Many people have made comments on my post in other groups, some quite attacking, saying the disciples changed worship from Saturday to Sunday.
What does scripture say about Worship and Church?
You can make up your own mind, but first you need to know what the Bible says;
Please note that the first day of the week is Sunday.
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
Acts 20:7 KJV
It’s a fact, Jesus worked on the Sabbath, he was a doctor, a preacher, a teacher, a councillor, a mediator, a judge, a caterer, a servant!
And he sayeth unto them, is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day. And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days? that they might accuse him. And he said unto them, what man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days.
And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath days.
Jesus said about the 10 commandments:
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:17-19 KJV
And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath:
also, fore, the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.
And it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
Keep the Sabbath day holy.
Jesus is our example of this now, so we should do as he did.
Teach the word of God to others.
Heal people, share the truth, do good works, volunteer, visit someone who needs a friend, cook a meal for someone, get in touch with all the people you care about and check in with them. Do something for God.
Jesus appeared to the disciples and said ‘Peace’
Break bread together, remembering Christ’s Sacrifice, with your family and friends and just relax and share God’s word, like the disciples did.
Getting ready for work the next day.
They shared the gospel every day, while they were living their life.
The Bible says we are to share the Word, with others and follow Jesus example.
Love God first, and then love him, by loving others, and follow the ten commandments, that’s all.
Jesus summed up the 10, in the 2 commandments.
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
We, the children of God, are the body of Christ, the Church.
Not a building.
Where people are gathered together anywhere, in his name, there He is.
“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gathers in my name, there am I with them.”
Matthew 18:19-20 NIV
By doing what the disciples and Jesus did. They are our example of what Church is.
Not today’s confusing abundance of denominations and the separatist mentality of us and them. Ignoring the Lost and broken.
Looking down on anyone who does not conform to their unachievable judgements and standards.
If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died to cleans you from your sin’s, and save you from your sinful nature, you repent for your disobedience and that he was resurrected and now sits at the right hand of God.
Then you have the key to Heaven…
All the books of the new testament, the letters from Paul to the ‘Churches’. Were just letters of encouragement, support, friendships, accountability and warnings to those he had shared the gospel with.
Encouraging the people to share the word and lead their lives like Christ did. Picking up on the small things they were doing wrong and teaching them the right ways. So, the small things didn’t turn into bigger things. Reminding them about what Christ taught.
It does not teach anything about getting together in a building, singing a bunch of song’s, hearing the same teachings week after week.
Going home, acting like the rest of the world and leading a hypocritical, non-fruitful, non-productive or Christ like life.
Whether it be Saturday or Sunday!
Sing praises daily, worship every day, be thankful every second.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 4:24 KJV
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
John 4:23 KJV
If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
Luke 4:7 KJV
You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
John 4:22-24 NIV
So read your Bible, so you can learn, to teach others in Love. Hold the people you love accountable.
Lead by example.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognise them.
Matthew 7:18-20 NIV
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5 NIV
Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
Matthew 12:33 KJV
He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
John 15:2 NIV
Don’t just put aside one day of the week and be done.
So, what does the Bible say?
I say follow Jesus…✝️
